Astrologer Oscar Cainer lays out your weekly love horoscope for the week of Saturday July 3rd, to Friday July 9th.

Does conflict always arise when independence is asserted? Or are there gentler ways to get what we want? Following Independence Day weekend, with both Venus and Mars opposing authoritarian Saturn and linking to revolutionary Uranus, something needs to give.

It will take a combination of imagination and creativity, plus determination and effort to make our world a better place. And, even though the progress we achieve this week won’t be perfect, it will lay the groundwork for future triumphs.

It was Eve, apparently, who was first tempted to eat the forbidden fruit. She then gave some to Adam – resulting in them both being banished from the Garden of Eden. And so began a long, inglorious tradition of heaping the blame on the woman in a relationship, which just a quick look at the tabloids and gossip columns shows you still happens today. As we enter the Dark of the Moon, you’re making a bold attempt to reflect on a story from as many perspectives as possible. Once you’ve seen past the superficial, you’ll be able to appreciate someone’s honesty.

‘You know who you remind me of?’ It’s a question that new acquaintances sometimes ask. Personally, I’d rather not know! If the person in question is someone I don’t like, the comparison will just be irritating. And if it’s someone I admire, it might make me big headed! Judging ourselves against the actions and achievements of others is never a good idea – particularly as we tend to contrast ourselves with people who seem to fly high. If you concentrate on your own emotional wellbeing this week, you’ll find yourself in a brighter, happier place.

You plan your journeys carefully. If you’re driving, you find the right route. You arrive in plenty of time to catch the bus/train and settle into your seat. Sometimes, though, this is when the doubts start to creep into your mind. Is it the right time to make such a trip? Do you really want to head towards this destination? What if it’s not what you expect? Although it’s tempting to get off at the next stop, don’t. Dig deep and stay steadfast. During this week’s Dark of the Moon, your persistence will be rewarded – and someone at the journey’s end will lift your heart.

‘No one likes us, we don’t care.’ This refrain is sung by fans of Millwall football club – a team with a reputation for giving their visiting opponents a hard time. It must be nice to be oblivious to the disapproval of others. In reality however, most of us care if someone doesn’t like us. How dare they not fall for our charms? Of course, when someone does appreciate us, we don’t question their judgment; we just inwardly applaud them for their good taste! If you go out of your way to be appreciative this week, you’ll find that you’re on the winning side.

Being in love is exhilarating and enervating, energising and exhausting. And when those first heady weeks have passed, loving someone requires the continued investment of emotional capital. We care for them, worry about them, and consider their needs above our own. Any disagreements bring guilt, anxiety and stress. This week, as we enter the Dark of the Moon, you need to focus on your own wellbeing. The cosmos is providing you with a chance to restore any depleted levels of self-belief. The appreciation you deserve will follow.

People can be quick to judge. And sometimes, when they disapprove of our actions or abilities, we feel so affronted we go into overdrive to try to change their minds. We might extravagantly demonstrate a particular skill in their presence. Or go out of our way to describe the mitigating circumstances that explain why our performance wasn’t as good as we’d hoped. But such actions can spark tit-for-tat retaliations, which extend the negativity. This New Moon week, if you show tolerance, and judge kindly, a key relationship will benefit.

Most of us are risk averse. That’s what makes the insurance companies’ millions. They tell us that disaster lies around every corner; that our pipes could burst and that our homes are liable to floods/fire/earthquakes. Surely we’d be foolish not to take out expensive policies to make good the potential damage? Most of the time though, the worst doesn’t happen. The same can be said of your emotional life. The turbulence you’re experiencing won’t end in disaster. It will pass – and so will your feelings of stress and anxiety. The New Moon’s a sign of hope.

Where did we come from? Are we alone in the universe? Is the Loch Ness Monster real? If so, does it know the Abominable Snowman? What was the best thing before sliced bread? If there are more stars in the sky than grains of sand, who did the counting? Should we strike while the iron’s hot – or do fools rush in? Will the questions never end? And will your forecast ever start? Life’s full of imponderables. You don’t yet have the answer to a riddle of the heart. But the New Moon casts welcome light onto the puzzle, and helps you find the answer you seek.

And there’s one thing they all have in common: ‘Terms and conditions apply’. Of course if we were all sensible, logical people, with endless time on our hands, we’d peruse the T&Cs with legal textbooks to hand. But who does that? At the moment, you’re wondering if you should have checked the emotional small print of a relationship. But the tangle you’re in is far less knotty than you fear.

Recently, when a huge container ship got stuck in the Suez Canal, it caused deliveries to be delayed by weeks. There were long waits for the arrival of everything from garden furniture (frustrating) to vital medical supplies (alarming). This is what happens when we live in a just-in-the-nick-of-time world. Right now, you’re considering taking a leap into the unknown concerning a matter of the heart. But you’re concerned that you don’t have the nerve to go through with it. The New Moon indicates that your confidence will arrive – just in time!

We witness countless wonders every day. The song of a robin. A ladybird opening its wings. A dandelion seed floating on the breeze. A shower of rain making the world sparkle. These magical moments should make our heart sing and our spirits soar. But too often, we don’t even notice them. We’re too busy concentrating on the flaws and faults that afflict our daily lives. With a New Moon at the end of the week, this is a moment to reflect on your relationships. If you take a moment to appreciate someone, you’ll discover a long-lasting reason to smile.

The best magicians make objects appear and disappear before our eyes, even when they’re being watched like a hawk. You too are being observed this week, but you don’t have the sleight of hand to get away with such a trick. So what can you do? There’s a well-known saying: ‘Go big or go home’. Instead of trying to hide your manoeuvring, be as bold as brass. As we enter the Dark of the Moon, act as if you have nothing to hide, surround yourself with a force field of self-confidence, and no one will stop you claiming the emotional prize you deserve.
